"SWEETHEART DEAL"
ITALIANO
SEEKS $70K POLICE DIRECTOR SALARY UPON RETIREMENT,
PENSION
RUMORED TO BE ANOTHER $70K COURTESY OF TAXPAYERS!
WILL
EARN MORE IN RETIREMENT AS PD THAN AS CHIEF!
NORTH
ARLINGTON - In what would be regarded as a monumental
taxpayer rip-off, rumors have it that Police
Chief Frank Italiano is seeking to broker a deal that
makes him the civilian police director at $70,000 come
January 1st, 2005. If such a deal would occur, Italiano
would earn more in retirement than as the borough's
day to day police chief.
"Frank
Italiano's sweetheart deal will be opposed by Democrats
in the fall campaign. This party is not going to
sit idly by and let Italiano manipulate the process
and further indebt this community with a salary structure
that is by any standard outrageous, unacceptable and
an insult to every North Arlington homeowner," said
one Democrat upon hearing of the proposed agreement.
According
to sources, local Democrats will make the Italiano agreement
central to their campaign.
"The
Democratic ticket will oppose this deal and the Democratic
ticket will be outspoken if such a ridiculous agreement
is reached. Taxpayers are tired of partisan bureaucrats
whose only purpose in government is to maximize earnings
at the expense of taxpayers. How can you install a man
as director when his own home gets robbed?" questioned
another infuriated Democrat upon learning about the
proposal.
Democrats
have little love for Italiano, the partisan Republican
who was elected last year to the board of education
with the help of former Republican Mayor Leonard R.
Kaiser.
"Italiano
was a huge supporter of Frank Caputo and Jim Herrmann.
He has a huge sign on his property supporting Republicans
each and every election season. He is in constant contact
with Pitman's most vocal opponents. He did nothing to
help Pitman at the February 12th meeting which nearly
turned into a riot. Any council member who votes for
this deal will be held accountable by taxpayers and
homeowners," said another outraged Democratic supporter
of the Mayor and his fragile majority of one.
