CAMPAIGN 2008:
DEMOCRATS FILE COUNTY COMMITTEE SLATE IN RECONFIGURED ELECTION DISTRICTS THAT REDUCES THE NUMBER FROM TWELVE TO TEN.
North Arlington Dems run united under the BCDO slogan and support the entire ticket top to bottom!
NORTH ARLINGTON - Local Democratic Chairman Nick Antonicello announced that the North Arlington Regular Democratic Organization will file it's slate of county committee candidates under the organization line and support the entire ticket including US Senator Frank Lautenberg and Congressman Steve Rothman for re-election.
While local Democrats anticipate no competition in the primary, there is an expected challenge of Senator Lautenberg by Camden County Congressman Rob Andrews. It is unclear if Andrews intends to file a complete slate of candidates challenging the BCDO.
Local Democrats announced earlier this weekend that former councilman and public defender Mark Yampaglia will join Council President Steve Tanelli on the local Democratic ticket.
Yampaglia, who was elected to an unexpired term in 2005 replaces the retiring Jim Ferriero, the elder statesman of the local organization and one of the architects that ousted former Mayor Len Kaiser from power in 2002. Elected in 2002 and re-elected in 2005, Ferriero has endorsed Yampaglia as his replacement on the ticket.
"I've known the Yampaglia family for the better part of twenty years. There service and dedication to the community is without question. I not only ran with Mark for re-election in 2005, but I first ran with his father Emil when he challenged Kaiser for mayor in 1990. Mark is well-intentioned and knowledgeable on the issues important to taxpayers. The party couldn't have made a better choice and I fully endorse his candidacy along with Councilman Steve Tanelli come the fall campaign," said Ferriero.
"With Steve and Mark heading our ticket, we have a very strong ticket that will do very well come the fall campaign. We've fixed the tax problem here in the borough and we're close to resolving the EnCap question. The people of North Arlington can trust this team along with Mayor Pete Massa to get the job done and keep North Arlington on the right track," said Antonicello
Members of the county committee are the elected representatives of the Democratic Party in each election district. There chief responsibility is to select a municipal and county leader along with support the Democratic Party in the fall contests. The position is a two year-term and each district has one male and one female representative.
The following candidates have been filed by the North Arlington Democratic organization:
District 1: Robert McClintock & Jacqueline McClintock
District 2: Ken Ludviksen & Lillian Mazzolla
District 3: James Hislop & Alice Grabowski
District 4: Mark Yampaglia & Jeanette Yampaglia
District 5: Kong You & Kong Ywok
District 6: Carmen Scocco & Ann Platten
District 7: Nicholas Antonicello & Patricia Antonicello
District 8: Arthur Parisi & Doris Parisi
District 9: Daniel Sarpa & Jean Williams
District 10: Guillermo Zamora & Shari Zamora
Local Democrats are excited by the prospects of the fall campaign given the "zero" tax increase and the overwhelming number of Democrats that voted in the February 5th presidential primary.
"Over 1,700 Democrats voted while only about 600 Republicans. This is a clear statement that taxes are now under control and Democrats are motivated by the accomplishments of the Massa Administration. we have every intention of getting these Democrats involved in the process and we're very optimistic about our chances come the fall," observed Councilman Al Grannell, who will play a key role in this year's council campaign.
According to sources, Democrats are in the midst of putting together a fundraiser and will announce a date shortly. Anyone who would like to volunteer for the campaign is urged to contact Councilman Steve Tanelli at (973) 985-9185. The campaign is seeking lawn sign locations as well as individuals to help the campaign go door-to-door between now and October.
