Increase in Extraordinary Aid for NA
Rutherford,
Wood-Ridge, Wallington see increases in state support while
Garfield & Carlstadt receive less in Extraordinary
aid.
NORTH
ARLINGTON - Pleas for additional state funding in wake
of a $445,000 charge back fell upon deaf ears as
North Arlington will receive the same amount of funding
as appropriated in 2004.
The
borough, which had requested increases in their application
to nearly $800,000 will receive less than half or
$330,000.
Total
Extraordinary Aid dollars to municipalities in the 36th
legislative district increased from $2,405,000
to $2,555,000 or 6%. Of the eleven municipalities
within the district, six or 55% of the communities received
Extraordinary Aid. Nutley, Passaic City, Lyndhurst and
East Rutherford did not receive any funding. Of
the 565 municipalities in the state of New Jersey, 99
communities or roughly 18% of all municipalities qualified
for this supplemental aid package which is administered
by the Department of Community Affairs (DCA).
The
average award of the seven municipalities that qualified
for Extraordinary Aid was $365,000. Garfield,
Wood-Ridge and Rutherford received more while Carlstadt,
Wallington, North Arlington and Moonachie received less.
Rutherford,
who received $330,000 last year in Extraordinary Aid
was awarded $450,000 or a 27% increase. Wallington,
who received $300,000 last year will receive $350,000
this year or 14% more in state funding. Wood-Ridge,
who received $400,000 last year was increased to $500,000
for a 20% increase. The mayor of Wood-Ridge is Paul
Sarlo, the district's state senator.
Moonachie,
like North Arlington received no increase in state aid.
Moonachie will receive $175,000. Of all the municipalities
in the 36th legislative district, Passaic is first in
population followed by Nutley, Garfield, Rutherford,
Lyndhurst and North Arlington. Moonachie is the smallest
community in the district that stretches across three
counties.
Garfield,
who received $700,000 in 2002 and $610,000 last
year received $550,000 this year for a 10% decrease.
Since 2002, Garfield's state aid has decreased 21%.
